Alexander Rafferts Obituary

From: Madison County Democrat (London, Ohio), 5 November 1863

Sad Accident: On last Saturday afternoon, as the 3:25 train from Cincinnati was in the vicinity of West Jefferson, a man by the name of Alexander Rafferts of Vienna, with a load of apples, attempted to cross the track, but just as the wagon was passing over the rails, the locomotive attached to the train struck it, shattering it to pieces and killing almost instantly the unfortunate man. --Columbus Gazette
