Biography of M. S. Murray

M. S. Murray is a Madison county product, and first saw its fair and fertile soil in Stokes township in 1856. It looked good to him then, and it has always looked so good, he has lived within its boundaries all of his life.
His early education was in the district schools, but he spent two years in the Normal at Lebanon and one year in Springfield. At eighteen he started life as a pedagogue, but ambition was prompting him to higher things. His inclinations were toward the law, so while he taught, he also studied Blackstone. In October, 1884, he was admitted to the Bar, and ever since has practiced law in London, being today the senior member of the well-known and successful firm of Murray & Emery. He married in 1881, and three children have blessed the union. Mr. Murray enjoys the distinction of being more of a lawyer than a politician, hence the office seeking bee does not buzz vigorously for him. He is an ardent Democrat, and looks for the ascendency of the party to National Power. He has served as city solicitor and on the board of elections. Is a trustee of the library, member of the A. O. H., the London Club, Warden in St. Patrick's church, a director in the London Exchange bank, an upright citizen, an able lawyer, and in the enjoyment of a wide practice.
