Our present efficient county surveyor is Mr. Herschel L. McCafferty, a native of the county, born in Mt. Sterling, January 14, 1871. His early education was obtained in the public schools. Graduated from the high school with honor in 1888. Then took a course of special training in mathematics and all branches of civil engineering. His talents and tastes eminently fit him for the present owrk. In 1892, he was nominated and elected county surveyor by a large majority. He served till 1899, but in 1904, was again a candidate and again elected. In testimony of his splendid services, he was named by his party in the April convention and his election this fall is a foregone conclusion.
