C. R. Hornbeck
From Madison Democrat 50th Anniversary
Published by the Madison Democrat, 1908
Prominent and successful in the law, and a Republican politician of note and influence is Hon. C. R. Hornbeck. He was born in the western part of Union township, this county in 1858, received his education in the common schools, and in Union Christian College, Indiana. When well on to middle life he determined to take up the profession of law and was admitted to the Bar in 1895. He had served six years as Justice of the Peace, and this experience was a valuable one. It is said that during his terms of office at a time when there was much litigation in this court, he was never reversed by a higher tribunal.
He began practice in London, and soon was regarded an able lawyer, as well as a popular citizen. In 1900, he was elected prosecuting attorney, and re-elected in 1903. He made a fair and honorable prosecutor, fulfilling the predictions of his friends and satisfying all parties. Mr. Hornbeck is an ardent Republican, a worker in the ranks, a lawyer of unquestioned ability, genial in manner, has admirers and friends in all walks of life.
