JOHN W. BRICKER. The Buckeye Republican Club is the leading organization of the party in Ohio, a state that now and for many years past has held a dominant position in American politics. it is a famous organization, and it was a most unusual honor and tribute to the character and ability of a young Columbus attorney when John W. Bricker was chosen president of the club, being the youngest man ever so honored.
Mr. Bricker was born in Pleasant township, Madison County, Ohio, in 1893, son of Lemuel S. and Laura (King) Bricker. His mother is still living. His father was a farmer in Madison County, and both parents represented old time famililes in this section of the state.
John W. Bricker was fortunate in having his boyhood and early youth cast in rural conditions. He attended public schools there, and acquired both his higher literary and his professional educaation in the Ohio State University. He was graduated Bachelor of Arts in 1916 and received his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1920. While in the university he was prominent in all student and college activities, both athletic and literary. He played on the state university ball team and was captain of the varsity debating team. He also served as president of the Varsity "O" Association, made up of university men who received their "letter" in athletics, and of the University Young Men's Christian Association, as well as president of his class in 1914-15. Mr. Bricker's law school work was interrupted by the war. For two years he served in the camps of this country, first as athletic director of the Three Hundred and Twenty-ninth Regiment at Camp Sherman and later attached to the coast artillery at Camp Eustis, Virginia.
After graduatin in law school and being admitted to the bar Mr. Bricker began practice at Columbus in the summer of 1919. For one of the younger men in the profession he has made remarkable progress having become established as a lawyer with an important clientele. At the present time he is special counsel to the attorney-general of Ohio. He wa honored with elections as president of the Buckeye Republican Club in December, 1922.
Mr. Bricker is a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner, a member of the Franklin Post of the American Legion and is a deacon of the First Community Church of Grandview Heights. This church is one of the largest institutions of its kind in the country and one of the few that have been really successful. Its membership represents practically all the denominations of Christianity and comprises many individuals who have never been allied with any denomination. It is an interesting experiment in detaching religion as a common denominator of all mankind from the many minor interests that have clustered about this fundamental force in most churches. This organization, therefore, is important historically, and has done much to realize the hope of its founders and the large number of Columbus citizens who have given it their whole-hearted support.
Mr. Bricker married Miss Harriet Day, of Urbana, Ohio, in 1920. She graduated from the Ohio State University in 1919.

JOHN WILLIAM BRICKER, attorney-general of the State of Ohio since 1933, is the thirty-second Ohioan to fill that post since the office was created in 1846. A number of men of exceptional ability have filled the office, and from it have had promotions to larger positions of responsibility in the State or Nation.
John William Bricker was born in Pleasant township, Madison County, Ohio, September 6, 1893, son of Lemuel Spencer and Laura (King) Bricker. He grew up on a farm, and from the local public schools entered Ohio State University, where he was graduated Bachelor of Arts in 1916 and Bachelor of Laws in 1920. In the University he earned his letter in baseball, and at one time was president of the Association of Letter Men. He was captain of a debating team, and president of his class in 1914-15, and president of the University Y. M. C. A. For about a year he was with the colors during the World War, part of the time as athletic director of the Three Hundred and Twenty-ninth Regiment at Camp Sherman, and later with the Coast Artillery Corps at Camp Eustis, Virginia.
He had been admitted to the Ohio bar before graduating from law school, and from 1920 to 1928 was solicitor of Grandview Heights. He was assistant attorney-general from 1923 to 1927, under C. C. Crabbe. From 1929 to 1933 he was a member of the public utilities commission of Ohio, and in 1932 was elected on the Republican ticket to the office of attorney-general and reelected in 1934. He was elected president of the Buckeye Republican Club in December, 1922, being the youngest man ever so honored up to that time.
General Bricker has acted as counsel for the Ohio Public Health Association. He was chairman of the Court of Honor of Boy Scouts in Central Ohio, has served as trustee of Defiance College and Franklin University, and has been one of the lay members and officials of the First community Church of Grandview Heights. He is a member of the American Legion, is a Scottish Rite Mason or Knight Templar, and Shriner, member of the Faculty Coub, Torch Club, Optimist Club, Kit Kat Club, University Club, and the Columbus, Ohio State and American Bar Associations. His college fraternities are the Delta Chi and Delta Sigma Rho.
September 4, 1920, he married Harriet Day of Urbana, Ohio. She is a graduate of Ohio State University. They have one son, John Day.
